Her Story

Margaret Louise Torres was born on June 4, 1941 in San Antonio, Texas, the second of five children. She spent her life filling rooms with warmth, her kitchen with the smell of homemade tortillas, and her family with an unwavering sense that they were loved unconditionally.

A devoted mother to four children and grandmother to eleven, Margaret worked for thirty years as a school cafeteria manager — a job she approached with the same fierce love she gave to everything. She was known throughout the South Side for her tamales, her laugh, and her door that was always open.

She is remembered not for what she owned, but for what she gave.

Margaret was the most generous woman I ever knew. She fed half the neighborhood and never asked for anything in return. We miss her every single day.

Happy birthday Mom. We came to visit today and brought your favorite flowers. The grandkids are getting so big. You would have loved every minute of it.
